An Apprenticeship is an employment based training arrangement that leads to a trade qualification. They usually take four years to complete. Apprentices usually attend eight lots of one week block releases at TAFE for their first three years.

Traineeships are usually for non-trade occupations, such as clerical, sales, and hospitality work. However, they can be the equivalent to the first year of a traditional type apprenticeship. Traineeships have durations of between one and three years. Trainees will generally undergo off-the-job training for one or two days per week. However, the training schedule can be designed so that most training is completed in the workplace.
